GTO/Mighty Mule FM 502 March 20, 2007 Peter A. Thompson 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I am very pleased with my purchase and the ease of installation. Only time will tell how long it will hold up, but GTO makes quality products, so I am confident it will last.
10 Sepember, 2009 Update
It worked flawlessly for two years or until the warranty expired. I am now having also sorts of problems and it is presently not working. I am looking into buying a new gate opener and it won't be a Mighty Mule.
Heavy Duty Mighty Mule April 16, 2010 Catherine Distrito (Florida) This is my second Mighty Mule. The other one was the smaller unit. It has served us well until we sold the property. This one is installed and working like a champ.
The best part about the Might Mule is that it has the battery back up and when the electric goes off it still works.
I would highly recommend this product.
Works great - now my neighbors have them! April 18, 2008 A. Marshall (Florida Coast) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I installed one at our family beach home. The install was easy (although I had to spend a little time to improve my gate and post so it wouldn't drag.) Two and half years later and both my neighbors have gotten one - ideal location for solar.
Make sure your gate opens smoothly without hitting the ground before installing or it will stall when it drags.
I had to finally change the remote setting from factory because my neighbor's didn't and I open all three sets of gates when I use my remote.
The intercom is nice to use when guests are visiting, when they call you from the road you can let them in. However, you can also deny entrance to your daughter's boyfriend!
Good tech support, horrible warranty support July 22, 2007 S. Devol (Hellertown, PA) 21 out of 22 found this review helpful
As a technician that installed and has supported (repaired) a Mighty Mule 502 for over 2 years, I have experienced the following:
About 11 months after installation it stopped working. Tech support was excellent (approx. 24 hour email turnaround) in helping diagnose a problem with the main control board and gave us a return auth(RGA number). Upon installation of the new control board we noted one gate/motor didn't function. They asked us to return it, we did.
They refused, however, to warranty it. They stated we had 'fried' it somehow (either applying wrong voltage/current?). This gate is over 200 feet from any power source other then the 18v AC wires required to charge the 12v battery, how we could have damaged it is a mystery. Barring a lightning strike, the only way it could have been damaged was because of the faulty control panel.
Now it is about one year later and the other (slave) gate/motor isn't functioning. My interpretation of this is that either these motors only have a 2 year life expectancy, or the control board problems shortened the life of one motor while burning out the other. Either way, GTO/Mighty Mule will not cover it. At well over $300 per unit (not including labor) this effects the overall cost (true/operating cost) quite a bit.
I would check the reliability/warranty-support of other manufacturers before ever buying another Mighty Mule (GTO) product.
Great price, but you will pay later. November 18, 2009 Rodney Moore 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The opener worked flawlessly for about 1 year. After spending some time with tech support, which is very good but requires too many steps, determined the board was bad and covered by warranty. It was the original green board. Now the unit is no longer under warranty and the replacement board is bad, this time a relay seems to be the issue. Now I'm looking at a replacement board for over $200 with a 1 year warranty. I don't know if the blue board is any better, but I'm hesitant to try.
